Good morning we are Marina and Idoia, and now we are going to present the Industrial Revolution. We’re gonna explain the stages, the main characteristics and the life in the mines
STAGES:
The first industrial revolution was from 1780 to 1850 in England, Europe, USA; and the second industrial revolution was from 1880 to 1914.
MAIN CHARACTERISTICS:
The main characteristics of the first one were:
The change from an absolute monarchy, where the king had all the power and there was no government, to liberalism, where there was a powers division, private property and national sovereignty.
The pass from subsistence farming (them ate his products) to market farming (them sent his products), thanks to the Norfolk system and the enclosures.
There were less deaths so there was an increase in the population.
Advances in transport and industry thanks to the steam engine.
The main characteristics of the second one were:
New class society divided into bourgeoisie and proletariat and there was a big difference between them.
New socialist thoughts like utopian socialism which was so unreal, marxism which was more realistic and anarchism which was more violent.
The Taylorism that consists in the division of the work, reduction in the manufacturing time and mass production.
The first international which organized workers’ mobilitzations and the second international that was the exact same but just with socialist parties.
CHANGES IN SOCIETY:
In the old regime there was an estate society where the estate that you belonged to was decided when you were born and you couldn’t move from it. It was divided in clergy, aristocracy and the third state.
After the industrial revolution a new society came up, the class society, where the class you belonged was decided according to your wealth and properties. The classes were bourgeoisie and proletariat.
MINING: MINERS AND WIVES
Men, women and childrens worked in the mines. They worked so hard and they did very long journeys but although they all worked the same and all of them earned misery, men always earned more.
Their life conditions were so bad, they had very bad health, not enough food, epidemics and miserable housing.
And the objective of the worker’ movement was to improve their life and work conditions, thing that they achieved
Many thanks for your attention, now we will try to answer any questions you may have.
